You can add images in .png, .jpg, or .gif format. Follow the image usage guidelines.

Add text, headings, or titles to your site

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. On the right, click Insert Add or edit text & images (1) Text box.
  3. In the menu, click the Down arrow Add or edit text & images (2)Add or edit text & images (3)choose the text, heading, or title style you want.
  4. Add your text to the box.
  5. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Change how your text looks

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. Click the text you want to change.
  3. In the menu, click the Down arrow Add or edit text & images (4)Add or edit text & images (5) choose the text style you want.
  4. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Format your text

You can change how your text looks, add numbered or bulleted lists, or insert links in new Google Sites.

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. At the top right, click Pages, then choose the page you want to edit.
  3. Highlight the text, or click where you want to insert a list or link.
  4. In the menu at the top, choose how you want to format your text.
  5. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Tip: You can use an anchor link to link to a specific header or subheader on any published site. Learn how to insert an anchor link.

Add collapsible text

You can add a collapsible text box to save space on your Google Site.

  1. On your computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. On the right, click Insert Add or edit text & images (6)Collapsible text.
  3. To add heading and body text, click the text boxes.
  4. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Edit or delete collapsible text

Edit collapsible text

  1. On your computer, open your site in new Google Sites.
  2. Click on the heading. This will expand the collapsible text.
  3. To edit, click on the heading or body text box.
  4. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Tip: To preview your collapsible text, at the top right, click Preview Add or edit text & images (7).

Delete collapsible text

  1. On your computer, open your site in new Google Sites.
  2. To select the text box group, point to the top of the collapsible text box and click the blue outline.
  3. Click Delete group Add or edit text & images (8).

Turn collapsible text off

You can turn collapsible text into regular header and body text.

  1. On your computer, open your site in new Google Sites.
  2. Click the collapsible text to expand it.
  3. To select the text box group, point to the top of the collapsible text box and click the blue outline.
  4. Turn off "Collapsible."

To turn a header and body text boxes back into collapsible text:

  1. To select the text box group, point to the top of the header text box and click the blue outline.
  2. Turn on "Collapsible."

Add a section layout

You can change how part of a page looks by using a layout template.

  1. On your computer, go to a site in new Google Sites.
  2. On the right, clickInsert.
  3. Under "Content Blocks," drag the layout you want to your page.
  4. Add text, images, docs, or videos.
  5. At the top right, clickPublish.

Add a button

You can add a button on your site to take people to another URL or page.

Add or edit text & images (9)

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. On the right, click InsertAdd or edit text & images (10)Button.
  3. Enter a name. This will appear on the button.
  4. Paste a URL the button should point to, or choose apage on your site.
  5. Click Insert.

Edit or delete a button

Click the button you want to edit or delete.

  • To change the style: Click the down arrow Add or edit text & images (11) and choose:
    • Filled
    • Outlined
    • Text
  • To change the alignment: Click Align Add or edit text & images (12) and select an option.
  • To change the name or URL: Click Edit Add or edit text & images (13).
  • To delete: Click Remove Add or edit text & images (14) .

Insert & edit images

Add an image

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. On the right, click Insert Add or edit text & images (15) Images.
  3. Choose where to get your image.
  4. Choose an image and click Open orSelect.
  5. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Add an image carousel

You can add a carousel to show scrolling images on your site.

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. At the right, click InsertAdd or edit text & images (16)Image Carousel.
  3. Click Add image Add or edit text & images (17).
  4. Choose where to get your images.
  5. Choose 2 or more images.
    • To delete or add alt text, hover over the image.
    • To reorder images, drag and drop them.
  6. If you want to change how the carousel shows images, click Settings Add or edit text & images (18).
  7. Click Insert.
  8. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Tip: To preview your image carousel, at the top right, click Preview Add or edit text & images (19).

Add captions to images in a carousel

You can add captions to your images in a carousel. Your captions display underneath each image.

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. Click the image carousel you want to edit Add or edit text & images (20)Settings Add or edit text & images (21).
  3. In “Edit carousel,” hover over an image and click Add textAdd or edit text & images (22)Add or edit text & images (23)Add caption.
  4. Enter your caption in “Description” and click OK.
  5. To save your changes, click Update.
  6. To publish your changes, at the top right, clickPublish.

To turn captions off:

  1. Click the image carousel you want to edit Add or edit text & images (24)Settings Add or edit text & images (25).
  2. In the top right, click SettingsAdd or edit text & images (26)and uncheck the box next to "Show captions."
  3. To save your changes, click Update.
  4. To publish your changes, at the top right, clickPublish.

Turn on image transitions in a carousel

You can automatically cycle images in a carousel at 4 different speeds.

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. Click the image carousel you want to edit Add or edit text & images (27)Settings Add or edit text & images (28).
  3. In “Edit carousel,” click Settings Add or edit text & images (29)and check the box next to “Auto start.”
  4. To change the “Transition speed” between images, click the Down arrow Add or edit text & images (30)and select one of the options:
    • “Very slow”
    • “Slow”
    • “Medium”
    • “Fast”
  5. To save your changes, click Update.
  6. To publish your changes, at the top right, clickPublish​.

Resize a photo

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. Click the photo you want to resize.
  3. Click a dot and adjust the photo to the size you want.
  4. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Crop a photo

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. Click the photo you want to edit, and click CropAdd or edit text & images (31).
  3. Above the photo, use the slider to adjust the size.
  4. Move the photo within the frame.
  5. Click Done Add or edit text & images (32). To cancel your changes, at the top, click Undo Add or edit text & images (33).
  6. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Insert other elements to your site

Add a logo

Logos appear at the top, next to the site name.

  1. On your computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. In the top right corner, click Settings Add or edit text & images (34).
  3. In the "Settings" window, go to Brand Images.
  4. Under the “Logo” section, click Upload or Select.
    • Use an image at least 112 pixels tall.
    • Remove extra whitespace around the logo.
  5. Choose a .jpg, .png, or .gif file and click Open or Select.
  6. At the top right, click Publish.

Add social media links

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. At the right, click InsertAdd or edit text & images (35)Social links Add or edit text & images (36).
  3. You can add a URL or email address for each social link.
  4. Optional:you can also add a custom icon image for each social link.
    • Tip: For popular social media websites, Google Sites will automatically provideicon images.
  5. ClickInsert.
  6. Click the social link icons to edit them. You can edit the icons' size, shape, style, color, and alignment.

Add or edit alt text

  1. Select the image or logo.
  2. At the top, click More editing optionsAdd or edit text & images (37) Add or edit text & images (38) Add alt text.
  3. Enter alt text in the description field.

Add a custom favicon

In a browser, like Chrome or Safari, the faviconis an image that shows next to a site's name at the top. Your site needs to be live to show a favicon.

  1. On your computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. In the top right corner, click Settings Add or edit text & images (39).
  3. In the "Settings" window, go to Brand Images.
  4. Under the “Favicon” section, click Upload or Select.
  5. Choose a .jpg, .png, or .gif file.
  6. Choose a file and click Open or Select.
  7. At the top right, click Publish.

Add a spacer between elements

You can use spacers to re-arrange your site layout and add empty spaces between different items.

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. On the right panel, click InsertAdd or edit text & images (40)Spacer.
  3. You can drag and drop to move the spacer, and you can adjust the size of the spacer.
  4. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Group and ungroup objects

You can connect text boxes and images together to move them around as a group.

Group or ungroup text boxes & photos

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. On the same page, add a photo and a text box.
  3. Drag the photo to the top or bottom half of the text box, until a line appears.
  4. To ungroup, click the photo or text box you want to remove and drag it away from the group.

Change the order of grouped items

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. Click the grouped items you want to change.
  3. Click the photo or text box you want to move.
  4. Press the Up,Down, Right, or Left arrow key.

  2. Click the page you want to edit.

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. Click the page you want to edit.

  4. Click the text you want to change.
  5. Edit the text Add or edit text & images (44) click Save.

Format text

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. Choose the page you want to edit.
  3. At the top right, click Edit page Add or edit text & images (45).
  4. Highlight the text, or click where you want to insert a list or link.
  5. In the menu at the top, choose how you want to format your text.
  6. Format the text Add or edit text & images (46) click Save.

Add an image

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. Click where you want to insert the image.
  3. In the toolbar, click Insert Add or edit text & images (47) Image. If you don’t see the toolbar, click Edit Add or edit text & images (48).
  4. Select an option.
  5. Choose an image and click OK.

Add a link

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. Click where you want to add a link, or highlight the text that you want to link.
  3. In the toolbar, click Link Add or edit text & images (49).
  4. Select an option.
  5. Click OK.
