My son has developed an interest in cooking and we thought this cookbook would be perfect for him. We’re all Snoop Dogg fans and after flipping through and browsing some of the recipes, it almost seemed like it would make a good gag gift with the humerous titles, but these recipes are legit! The book is packed with tons of recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but so much more including drinks, desserts, special occasion recipes, favorite snacks, and even a few of Snoop Dogg’s favorite restaurants.

We started with a few dinner recipes. First up was ‘Dirty South Gumbo’ which turned out perfect. You basically sear the chicken, move onto the roux, and then add everything in as you go. Have rice cooking on the side to serve it with when it’s done.

From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg… (2)

Next we tried the ‘Yardie Yardbird’ which was such a simple recipe. I thought this was a perfect weeknight meal because it’s a quick marinated and then baked chicken served with rice or noodles. We served it with rice and heard no complaints!!

From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg… (3)

We had to try Snoop’s ‘Spaghetti de la Hood’ because the picture in the book was so enticing, and we're hardcore spaghetti fanatics--eating it at least 3-4 times per month. This is a nice basic spaghetti with meatballs recipe, but there were a few things I personally didn’t like about it. I’m used to baking my meatballs rather than frying. The meat mixture almost seemed dry, but they turned out really good. The sauce didn’t have loads of flavor. Our family is used to having some Italian spices in the sauce like oregano and marjoram, plus some added spice from cayenne pepper. This recipe only called for a bay leaf, but it was still really good. Everyone really enjoyed it and I think this is one my son will want to make again in the future. It really isn’t hard to modify the recipe and add in the spices you want for your perfect sauce.

From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg… (4)

One of the desserts we tried were the ‘Rolls Royce PB-Chocolate Chip Cookies.’ Now I’ll be honest, my oldear son hates peanut butter, but he devoured these! I thought for sure after we mixed the cookie dough that the dough was way too sticky, but the texture turned out to be perfect. They baked up beautifully and the house smelled divine. It was very hard for me not to eat these, but I didn’t cave. I could tell just by the way they looked and how the kids were snatching them right off the counter that they were soft and delicious.

From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg… (5)

I couldn’t pass up trying Snoop Dogg’s green smoothie. It looked similar to what we call ‘The Green Monster’ but he titles his ‘Tha Smoovie.’ The ingredient ratio seemed different, but we went for it. Two cups of water with zero frozen ingredients seems like it would be a juice recipe and we like our smoothies thick, so I added 1 cup less water and added in some ice as well. It tasted good and it’s an easy fix to just add in ice or extra ingredients to make it thicker.

Overall, this is a really good cookbook fo shizzle! We’re having a lot of fun with it. The recipe titles are catchy and there’s some interesting reading in between. Every recipe has a story and it’s a plus getting to know a little more about Snoop Dogg and his food preferences. It definitely has some nice personal touches.

YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT–Thanksgiving is one of the most important cooking days of the year. It’s real important that you have a great chef in the kitchen on T-Day. I’m talking about your momma, your auntie…someone who knows just how much cheese to put in that macaroni, or who makes the perfect gravy to cover your whole plate. I just so happen to have learned all the greatest Broadus family recipes from my grandmas, cousins, you name it. Some of these recipes weren’t easy to come by–you know the family ain’t trying to give up their secrets! Well, I struggled to get ’em so you don’t have to. Your turkey will never be dry and your sides will never be flavorless if you follow Tha Dogg’s lead!

We like the format and the majority of the recipes aren’t too fancy or difficult, in fact, most are perfect for beginners. Some of the ‘OG Munchies’ in the book are many of my favorite snacks from childhood so, there’s even some nostalgia here for me from the ‘Lucky Charms’ to the ‘Fried Bologna Sandwich.’ The photography is stunning and our only complaint is that every meal recipe doesn’t have a photo, but this seems to be quite common in nearly every cookbook I’ve read.

This turned out to be a good purchase. We rate this one 4.5-stars and we’re happy to have it in our kitchen.

♬♫♬ Na na na na na na na - It's the motherf*ckin' D-O-double-G ♬♫♬

When I saw Snoop had a cookbook coming out I was most definitely like this shizzle is going to be in my hizzle for rizzle, but I have to talk myself into almost every purchase so I hadn’t bought it yet. That’s not to say I’m not a very old and very white fangirl of the West Coast OGs. Watching Snoop’s career morph from gangsta rapper when I was a youngster to the easy for everyone’s palate youth football coach and Martha’s bestie in my middle-age has been a true delight, so when this puppy dropped to twelve bucks on Amazon there was zero chance my husband wasn’t going to pull the trigger and have this show up on the doorstep for me.

While I love the bougieness of Martha Stewart and her pantry full of 47 types of salt and 27 olive oils, can we just take a second to appreciate Snoop’s true staples which are hot sauce and ranch. Or that he includes pages on what types of cereals and chips are the best? Surprisingly, From Crook to Cook also contained a quality mix of recipes from the expected chicken and waffles (I mean did y’all even watch Snoop and Martha’s Potluck Dinner Party???) to lobster thermidore and seared filets.

I was actually planning on making jambalaya for dinner at some point this week so I had all of the ingredientsesssssss all ready to go that could be morphed into Snoop’s “Dirty South Gumbo” and since I was working from home I had my lunch hour free to make the thirty minute roux necessary to start this recipizzle. Okay, I’ll stop torturing you with the Snoop lingo now.

So, like I said, this one starts with a roux (that’s one cup oil to one cup flour, whisked together on medium heat and then stirred every few minutes to prevent burning for 20-30 minutes for those who don’t know) and then a minced version of the “holy trinity” (but with red bell peppers rather than the standard green this go ‘round) added to complete the base . . . .

From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg… (8)

Look at me rocking that 1970s Le Chef! Only the best for my kitchen.

Once combined it should look a lil’ summin like this . . . . .

From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg… (9)

The “difficult” (which is not difficult at all – just takes a bit of time) is that prep. After that part’s done, you just dump a bunch of chicken stock, sausage, chicken (I added shrimp too since I had it), hot sauce and seasons and let her cook . . . .

From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg… (10)

Serve with white rice, garnish with scallions and add a couple of Snoop's cornbread muffins on the side . . . .

From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg… (11)

And your family will think you are the real dizzle. Come on! You had to know I wasn’t done yet.

Anyway, this cookbook contains plenty of things I already make like street tacos, sheet pan nachos and mack daddy macaroni and cheese, but they each have a little twist on the fixins so I’ll certainly try his versions (especially for Super Bowl Sunday) and there’s a pork chop, mashed sweet potato and spinach recipe that will be a Sunday dinner coming to my house soon. This is a cookbook I wanted to own simply because I’m a sucker for a good gimmick, but was pleasantly surprised to discover was actually a pretty quality release (especially for cooking newbies). And the price point of $12? That’s the true chef’s kiss.

My boyfriend ended up with this from a White Elephant gift, and it's actually hilariously cool!

Snoop has been great friends with Martha Stewart for a long time, and while I don't think she had any part in this book (I could be wrong), I'm sure he's learned quite a few things from her over the years.

Every page is detailed with good looking recipes that are easy to follow along, has great pictures, and super clever recipe names. We’re definitely looking forward to using this more!

This book is everything you expect and then some. I loved it. I loved the forward written by Martha Stewart. I loved the sincerity in the recipes. I loved that there was a recipe for a bologna sandwich. I loved the song lists that came with some of the dinner recipes.

And most surprising....these are solid recipes (bologna sandwich aside) that someone on a tight budget can fix and eat well off of. The dinner section and drink section are seriously good for a cookbook that’s covering affordable food. And the drink section made me a master bartender.

I also loved the artist pictures of junk food that Snoop keeps in his house.

Look, it's simple: I had to read a cookbook for a summer reading challenge and I saw Kindle Unlimited offer this one. I figured if I had to read one, it'd be from someone entertaining like Snoop Dogg. And he didn't disappoint; covering his favorite recipes and making me hungry as heck. I don't know if any of these dishes work (I don't cook) but they looked good to me and that's all that matters (again: to me).

From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg's Kitchen by Snoop Dog

This cookbook is 291 pages of recipes and random thoughts on family, friends, and food, recipes for co*cktails and all shared through his words. This is entertaining, and although I haven’t had the opportunity - yet- to try these recipes, there are several that seem easy enough for anyone to tackle, as well as sounding delicious.

This isn’t your typical cookbook, it is probably 50% recipes and 50% his thoughts on other things, which makes it more ‘entertaining’ than your average cookbook.

The funniest cookbook I own. I ordered this randomly during a boring uni lecture and when it arrived I just couldn’t put it down. I kept flipping through it, checking out the recipes, reading snoop’s intros to each one and just admiring the love and dedication that went into this. It’s not just fun, it’s functional, more so than many cookbooks sold for double the money.

I appreciate the look into snoops pantry, little essays on his favorite ingredients, snacks he loves and places that inspired his dishes. And the food photography and design is just *chefs kiss*. It works super well as a coffee table book too, but I like to keep mine close by as it’s one of the only books I allow to grace my kitchen shelf.

My most cooked: Spaghetti de la Hood.
The best dish: Last Meal Shrimp Alfredo.

Friends tend to tease me for my love of all things Snoop. And that’s ok. I devoured (pun intended) this cookbook. From even the simplest dishes, I’m taking away new hints and strategies for cooking. Snoop keeps it real and breaks it down!

I'm a little disappointed in this one. I don't know what I was expecting but pigs in a blanket and garishly colored pages listing Snoop's favorite cereals wasn't it. 😂

It is now my belief that any cookbook that lists a recipe for steak is basically some kid's term paper he wrote 4 hours before it was due and his BSer was turned up to 100.

I'm giving this two stars though because you best believe I'm going to try those potato chip crusted fried chicken wings.

Probably the most entertaining book I've read this year. Either Snoop is a decent writer, or someone did an amazing job of writing within the Doggfather's unique and ultra-cool voice. As a cookbook, it's mediocre; while the focus is mainly simple comfort foods (Southern-inspired), there are some surprisingly complicated and decent recipes. But the real story here is Snoop's advice on everything from candy to spices to fast food restaurants. And for that commentary alone, it's worth the cost of admission. Have fun!

I haven't cooked anything from this book yet, but I'm still giving it 5 stars. I had such a good time reading it, and I laughed out loud So Many Times. I'd checked this out from the library, but before I was even to the halfway point it found its way into my amazon cart. I can't wait to cook my way through this.

Writing: 2/5
Knowledge Gained: 3/5
Enjoyment: 5/5

Did expect snoop to write well, but the enjoyment level is high, and that was expected. Some nice recipes for party foods, and as expected, the drinks recipe section was snoop's strength.

I'm pretty sure there's a ghost writer at work here. The recipes are probably Snoop's -- Martha Stewart gives him cred, and recipes are pretty straight forward -- but there's such a strong attempt to write "into character" that it's hard to believe it's genuine.

It's a fun collection, but probably nothing you haven't cooked on your own. Come for the Dogg, don't stay for the recipes.

TBR Read Harder Challenge to read a cookbook.

An interesting cookbook with some good recipes that I want to try.

I appreciated that there were some extra sections that aren’t normally covered in general cookbooks.

Only drawback is that there are not pictures for each recipe.
