How to use Netflix on your Windows computer or tablet (2024)

Use this article to learn about Netflix features on your Windows computer or tablet, and how to set up and sign out of your account. If you don't know if Netflix works on your device, follow the steps in the “Set Up Netflix” section. The Netflix app is available on Windows 10 and later. If you're using an earlier version of Windows, you can watch Netflix.com from a web browser.

Netflix is available on Windows computers using a supported browser or the Netflix app for Windows 10 and later. Netflix streaming features on Windows computers include:

Navigation

  • Browse rows of movie posters: The main page displays rows of TV shows and movies for you to browse. You can also browse genres from the Browse drop-down.

  • Search: Search for specific TV show or movie titles, actors, directors, or genres from the search box in the upper right corner.

  • TV Show or Movie Pages: Hover over a specific TV show or movie poster to see additional information, such as a brief synopsis, year(s) produced, or maturity rating. For full information, click or tap the title within the window.

  • Playback: To play a TV show or movie, click a poster. While your title is playing, use the scroll bar at the bottom of the player screen to fast forward, rewind, or see more options. To exit video playback, select the back button in the upper left corner of your screen. If the scroll bar or back button are not visible on your screen, move your cursor until they appear.

Downloads

The Netflix app for Windows 10 and Windows 11 supports downloading titles so you can watch TV shows and movies offline. Downloaded titles are available up to 1080p.

Subtitles & alternate audio

Select the Audio and Subtitles icon to choose an alternate language track or turn on available subtitles.

For Dolby Atmos capable Windows computers, select TV shows and movies are available in Dolby Atmos audio using the Edge browser or Netflix app for Windows.

You can watch Netflix on most modern web browsers we support.

To get started:

  1. Go to netflix.com.

  2. Click Sign In. If you aren't a Netflix member, learn how to sign up.

  3. Enter your Netflix email or phone number and password.

  4. Click Sign In.

Netflix app for Windows 10 and later

  1. From the Start menu, select Store.

  2. Select Search.

  3. Type Netflix in the search box and press Enter.

  4. Select Netflix from the search results.

  5. Select Install.

    • If you're prompted to sign in, sign in with your Microsoft information.

  6. Return to the Start menu.

  7. Select the Netflix app.

  8. Select Sign in.

    • If you're not a member, sign up for Netflix.

  9. Enter your Netflix email address and password.

  10. Select Sign In.

To sign out of the Netflix account on your device, follow these steps.

  1. From your preferred browser, visit netflix.com.

  2. From the Netflix home screen, hover over your profile name in the upper right corner of the page.

  3. Select Sign out of Netflix.

  4. You are now signed out of your Netflix account.

Note:

These steps will only sign you out of Netflix on your current browser. If you are signed in to your Netflix account on more than one browser, you will need to repeat these steps on all browsers that you use to access Netflix.

Netflix app for Windows 10 and later

  1. From the Netflix app, select the More Options icon in the upper right corner.

  2. Select Sign Out.

  3. Select Sign Out again to confirm.

  4. You are now signed out of your Netflix account.

To watch Netflix in Ultra HD on your Windows computer or tablet, you'll need:

  • A Netflix plan that supports watching in Ultra HD with video playback quality set to Auto or High.

  • A steady internet connection speed of 15 megabits per second or higher.

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11 operating system with the latest updates installed.

  • A Netflix supported browser or the Netflix app for Windows installed.

  • The latest HEVC video extension must be installed.

    Note:

    Many Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices include the HEVC video extension preinstalled. Some computers require a separate purchase from Microsoft before it can be installed. If you're not sure or need help installing video extensions or updates, followthese stepsor contact the device manufacturer.

  • One or more of these graphics processing units (GPU) that support watching in Ultra HD:

    • NVIDIA GeForce GPU meeting these requirements.

    • AMD Radeon RX 400 series or newer GPU

    • An Intel 7th generation Core CPU or newer, or an AMD Ryzen CPU.

      Note:

      You may need to install the latest graphics drivers to watch in Ultra HD.

  • A 4K 60Hz built-in screen, or 4K 60Hz external monitor or display with an HDCP 2.2 compatible connection.

    For multiple connected displays, every active display must also meet this requirement.

To watch Netflix in HDR on your Windows computer, you'll need:

  • A Netflix plan that supports watching in HDR with video playback quality set to Auto or High.

  • A steady internet connection speed of 15 megabits per second or higher.

  • A Netflix supported browser or the Netflix app for Windows installed.
